I am an independent trainer in both the Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2). A parent interview and a standardized observation of the individual suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), these are the gold standard instruments utilized in research and clinical settings for diagnosing ASDs.

If you are interested in learning more about trainings for your group or program, please contact me. A description of trainings are below. For further information on how to contact other trainers as well as information on trainings held at the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain, please see http://www.cornellpsychiatry.org/education/autism.html.

ADI-R

If you are using the ADI-R for clinical purposes and do not need to use the ADI-R for research purposes, you may purchase a manual, protocols, and training videotapes from Western Psychological Services (www.wpspublish.com). It is strongly recommended that you purchase and view the ADI-R training videotapes before beginning to use the ADI-R for any purposes. If you have plans to use instruments in research, you must attend an ADI-R Research Training and establish research reliability with an established group or trainer.

Clinical ADOS-2

The Clinical ADOS-2 training is an introductory training on the ADOS-2. It covers a brief introduction to the Toddler module, with greater focus on modules 1-4. This two-day training involves a live administration of the ADOS-2 on both days, with detailed discussion of consensus scoring. In addition, a background on the ADOS-2 instrument as well as overview of psychometrics of the instrument are discussed. This course is necessary for clinical use of the instrument.

For practitioners working with very young children (under age 3), an additional ADOS-Toddler module course is recommended. This is a one-day course where a video of an administration of the ADOS-T is viewed, scored, and discussed. In addition, psychometric background to the instrument and instrument development is presented.

Research ADOS-2

Advanced or Research Level ADOS-2 training is two days and provided to a small group of 4-5 individuals. More thorough and detailed review of the tasks, administration, and scoring is provided. The trainer observes the group administer tasks of the ADOS-2 on both days of the training and provides feedback, as well as a detailed discussion of scoring. This level of training is necessary for research reliability on the instrument.

Tape Scoring

In order to become reliable on the ADOS-2, one must establish reliability with someone reliable within your site or with your trainer. I am available to score taped administrations and provide feedback. The fePlease contact me if you have questions. There is a deadline for submitting tapes after you have attended an ADOS-2 workshop. For more details on the reliability process, please see http://www.cornellpsychiatry.org/pdf/ADOS-Reliability-with-International-Options.pdf.
